If your child experiences any flu or illness-like symptoms, please follow the recommendations listed below. Please also remember to send in a parent note or doctor note for any absences due to illness.
Flu and Flu-Like Illnesses
Symptoms: Cough, fever, headache, chills, sore throat, fatigue, body aches, possible diarrhea and vomiting, nausea, and abdominal cramps
Howard County Public Schools & Health Department Recommendations:
- Children who are unwell or have a fever of 100 degrees F or above should stay at home
- Avoid close contact with infected persons
- Wash hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially:
- Before & after eating
- After using the bathroom
- After episodes of coughing, sneezing, vomiting, diarrhea
- When visibly soiled
Teach proper cough hygiene
- cough into sleeve of shirt or a tissue
- Do not send a child back to school until they have been fever- free for 24 hours without the aid of fever-reducing medication.
- Consult with your health care provider if fever persists and/or symptoms worsen
If your child texts you with any illness symptoms, please instruct them to go to the health room for further evaluation. The Health Room will contact you if necessary.
