Dear Mount View Community,
Every spring, middle schools in Howard County have the opportunity to participate in the Partnership for Assessment of College and Career Readiness (PARCC). The PARCC assessments serve as an “educational GPS system,” assessing students’ current performance, and pointing the way to what students need to learn to be ready for the next grade level and, by high school graduation, for college and/or a career.
The PARCC assessments are designed to give schools and teachers more information to improve instruction. Moreover, PARCC is designed to let parents know how their child is progressing academically. This more detailed information can lead to strong engagement between parents and teachers.
All students in grades six through eight will be taking the PARCC assessments in English Language Arts and math between the dates of May 7 and May 31. The specific testing dates for each subject and grade are:
It is very important that students are at school during the entire testing window. We are asking for your cooperation in not planning appointments that would cause your child to miss school during this testing window. We also encourage your help in seeing that your child receives plenty of rest and a nutritious breakfast each day. These scores are very important to student placement for next year and also reflect school progress and accomplishments. As a school, we will be encouraging students to do their best and have high expectations for each student. We also ask that you encourage your students to put forth their best effort on PARCC. It is important for each child to know that their parents and teachers are counting on them to try their best. Thank you for your support in encouraging your child to produce the best work possible during PARCC testing.
Sincerely,
Allen Cosentino
