Dear MVMS Parents,
We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and fewer students are studying it than a decade ago.
That’s why our entire school will join in on the largest education events in history: The Hour of Code. During Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 4-10), every one of our students will be amongst over 2 million worldwide spending one hour learning the basics. Next week, our students will participate in an “Hour of Code” lesson in their science classes. The lesson will be “unplugged” and is designed to remind students of the basic understandings of computer science… using patterns, logic, problem solving skills and creativity. There are many more “plugged” activities on the Mount View Middle School Student Resource course in Canvas if your student would like to do more.
Our Hour of Code is a statement that Mount View Middle School is ready to teach these foundational 21st century skills. Please see hourofcode.org for details, and thank you for your support.
