VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at Mount View Middle School. We value our volunteers and the contributions they make to our students and staff.

Child Abuse and Neglect Training

All volunteers working with students in the school or on field trips must read an overview of MD State Law and HCPSS Policy 1030 regarding Child Abuse and Neglect.  Please complete the course and return the certificate of completion to Jane Antico in the MVMS Front Office.   Access the training course.

Confidentiality Training Course

Thank you for your interest in volunteering within the Howard County School System! We value our volunteers and the contributions they make to our students and schools.

According to HCPSS Board Policy, all parent volunteers must complete a Confidentiality Training Course about protecting the privacy of our students, staff, and schools.

AFTER SCHOOL CLUBS & ACTIVITIES

2019-20 Clubs and Activities

This is a listing of the clubs and intramurals that have been set up so far; keep checking back as we will add more opportunities as they are organized.

Badminton (FULL)

This is an opportunity for students to learn and play badminton. No experience necessary. This club starts on 9/23 and runs for 10 consecutive days. Space is limited to the first 25 students who turn in a permission slip to Mrs. Kenney in PE. 

Flag Football

This is an opportunity for students to learn and play Flag Football. No experience necessary. This club will have two sessions: The first starts on 10/2 and runs for 8 consecutive days, and the second session starts on 10/21 and runs for 8 consecutive days. Flag Football

This is an opportunity for students to learn and play Flag Football. No experience necessary. Reading/Library Club

This is a new club where students will:

  • Provide input into the Library /Media program
  • Provide suggestions for promoting and encouraging reading and library use
  • Develop and carry out reading promotions using WeVideo, Canvas, written reviews, etc.
  • Coordinate with and complement the G/T Book Club
  • Plan and implement a teacher book club in which students choose the books
  • Support the annual PTA Book Sale

If this interests you, please see Mrs. Finley in the Media Center for a permission slip. This club starts on 10/10 and will run thru 3/26.

Jazz Band

Jazz Band is open by audition to all Mount View Students. There will be several performances throughout the year including winter and spring concerts. If you are interested in being part of the MV Jazz Band, see Mr. Sindler for an audition packet and permission slip. Jazz Band rehearsals begin on October 8.

Fantasy Football

In this club, students will select a team of NFL players and compete head to head with other students for the highest score. Students will use math skills to manually calculate the scores. There will be weekly prizes. This activity begins on October 10 and will run for 10 weeks. Space is limited to the first 25 students who turn in a permission slip to Mr. Grabau in room 14. FileMVMS_FantasyFootball_Permission.docx

Science Olympiad (FULL)

Mount View is forming its very first Science Olympiad team.
What is it? A group of students who love learning about science and will compete against other teams on their learned knowledge.
When does it meet? Once per week, October 10th through February.
Where does it meet? In Mrs. Stout’s room.  There will be weekend meetings closer to the competition that will take place out of school.
So if you are interested, please pick up a flier from Mrs. Stout or the media desk.  Information can also be found on the PTA website.

Dance Club (FULL)

Dance Club is a great opportunity for students who enjoy dance and are interested in learning fun moves from Ms. Dina Reyes, MRHS Dance instructor, and the  MRHS Dance Company. There will be a performance opportunity at the MRHS Winter Dance Concert on Friday, December 6Space is limited to the first 25 students who turn in a permission slip to the Main Office.  FileMVMS_Dance_Permission.docx

Math Club (FULL)

Students will work with high school students, teachers, and parent volunteers on high-level math problems. Opportunities for the county, chapter and state competition will occur in the late winter/early spring. Details to follow. Opportunities for other tournaments with the Chesapeake Math Program/Mathalon will be shared. Space is limited to the first 40 students who turn in a permission slip to the main office. FileMVMS_MathClub_Permission.docx

Mount View Musical

Mount View will present a musical play on February 28 and 29. Students in the cast will learn lines, dances, songs, and staging for the production. Students on the crew will be involved in set design and construction, staging, sound, and all aspects of the production behind the scenes. There is a parent meeting on November 11 where permission slips and play information will be distributed. Space is limited to the first 50 students (for the cast) and 10 students (for the crew) who turn in a permission slip to Ms. Grimes in the chorus room.

Girls Basketball

This is an opportunity for female students to learn and play basketball. No experience necessary. This club starts on February 24 and runs for 10 consecutive days. Space is limited to the first 25 students who turn in a permission slip to Mrs. Kenney in PE. FileMVMS_Volleyball_Permission.docx

Falcon Friends Club

Falcon Friends is an opportunity for students with disabilities to be paired with their Mount View classmates from the general population to share many different social experiences. This club will start on March 3 and will run for 10 weeks. Permission slips will be available in February and the club will be open to the first 20 students who turn in a slip to Mrs. Moe in room 13A.

Volleyball

This is an opportunity for students to learn and play Volleyball. No experience necessary. This club takes place in February and permission slips will be available in January. Space is limited to the first 24 students who turn in a permission slip to Mr. Tucci in PE.
