The ViewPoint 9/12

Falcon Family,

What a wonderful 1st week of school!  Congratulation, for a job well done!  Thank you to all of the parents, guardians, family members, friends and anyone else who helped our students have a successful first week of school. Ms. Hess and I visited several classes throughout the week and students were engaged, enthusiastic, and genuinely happy to be back with their teachers and peers.

This week our teachers spent a lot of time getting to know your children and building classroom communities.  They helped children sort through their schedules, get organized, and figure out how to navigate Canvas.  Parents and students have been great with access technology support and preparing for daily instruction.   We know that this year has brought about many changes, but please know that we are here to support you and your children. As we all navigate Virtual Learning, remember that patience is paramount and extending grace to one another is essential.  The MVMS staff is here to help each and every one of our students, so if you are experiencing any challenges, please reach out, and we will do all that we can to assist.

It is going to be an amazing year!

Thank for Your Support,

Lynnette Moore

Principal

Free Student Meals at MVMS: The food services program during the first semester of the 2020-2021 school year will consist of free Grab-and-Go meals served Monday through Friday from 8-9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. at all schools except Burleigh Manor Middle School and Hammond High School. Meals are free for all students through December. Our wonderful PTA is working to possibly coordinate pick-up of meals for families.  Once all of the logistics are complete we will send out additional information. Having meals for students is one less “to-do” for parents at home.  Ms. Hess and I utilize this service and it feel great to have one less item to prepare for our children for the school week.

Google Meet Expectations: To ensure a positive, productive and enjoyable learning experience for all participants, it is important that all students and parents/guardians adhere to these Google Meet Expectations.

The HCPSS Department of Special Education invites you to attend the Empowering Parents as Partners Conference from September 29-October 1st with two sessions each night; 6:30-7:30 and 7:45-8:45.   This year’s conference will be held virtually with session PowerPoints posted online for later viewing.  This conference will benefit both seasoned parents and those new to special education to help them advocate for their children, and be active and informed members of the IEP team. Staff from the Department of Special Education along with community partners will lead sessions including information on supporting your child and participating in the IEP process during virtual learning.  Parents will leave sessions with tools to support success and reduce stress during virtual learning.

Family Connect File: Every year HCPSS parents must complete a Family File for each child. HCPSS utilizes Family File for parents/guardians to complete emergency information. Parents/guardians must complete the Family File every year, even during virtual learning, to ensure HCPSS has the most current information for each child. Parents/guardians must verify and/or update information for each child, and can do so by logging in to HCPSS CONNECT and selecting the Family File tab on the left and then clicking on Family File.

Step by step directions to update Family File.

Once logged in, you will be asked to update or provide the following information:

·       Student Information

·       Parent/Guardian Contact

·       Emergency Contacts

·       Medical Information

·       Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

·       Photo Approval

·       Data Confidentiality

·       PTA/PTSA Directory

Changes of address may not be made through Family File. If you have recently moved, please contact your child’s new school as soon as possible. As we are preparing for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year, it is imperative that we have accurate addresses on file for all of our students. If you have moved (even if your school didn’t change), and have not provided us with your updated information, we ask that you email the following documents to April_Snyder@hcpss.org, Student Service Secretary.

Please complete a change of address form.

You will also need to send in the following:

·A lease or deed of trust that has all required signatures or an original lease with all required signatures

· Two current bills for cable television, non-cellular telephone, bank statement, or gas and electric.

Changes of parents’/guardian information (change name, add a parent or change custody status) may not be made through Family File. You will need to send legal documents to our Student Service Secretary, April Snyder, April_Snyder@hcpss.org  as soon as possible.

Resources on how to access Family File may be found on the HCPSS website.

Parents who have forgotten their login credentials may click the “Forgot Password” link on the sign in page. If you need additional assistance, please fill out this MVMS Technology Help Form
